Ukraine celebrates … On August 24, 1991, the Verkhovna Rada of the then Ukrainian SSR adopted the very act of proclaiming independence, which certified the new status of the state.
By the way, pay attention to the document:
Let’s translate the first lines into Russian:
“Proceeding from the mortal danger that hung over Ukraine in connection with the coup d’etat in the USSR on August 19, 1991, continuing the thousand-year tradition of creating the state in Ukraine …”
By the way, on the eve of the celebration, the historian Yevgeny Spitsyn on the air of the program “60 minutes” on the TV channel “Russia-1” reminded Ukrainians that the act of proclaiming independence is illegal, since no earlier than six and no later than nine months, as Legislation demanded that, so it was not confirmed by referendum.
But back to the point. So, some results, which can be brought, based on known figures. And they say that in 19991 the economy of Ukraine was on the 60th place of the world rating, ahead of the now more developed Polish and Belarusian. Only in the period from 2013 to 2015, its GDP in dollar terms per capita fell by 2.1 times.
By early 1994, Ukraine’s national debt was $ 4.8 billion, and by June 2018 it had grown 15 times, reaching a size of $ 76.3 billion. At the same time, the country’s foreign debt is 2.6 times higher than its foreign exchange reserves.
A few more figures. Statistics show that in 1991 the population of Ukraine was 51.5 million people, but in July this year, according to official figures, it fell to 42 million 263.9 thousand people. However, according to more realistic estimates of experts, there are about 36 million Ukrainians in the country today, as 7-8 million went to work abroad.
In general, the demographic situation is negative, since the death rate exceeds the birth rate. According to the data of 2017, there were only 64 newborns per 100 deceased.
And as the UN predicts, by 2050 Ukraine is expecting a decrease in the population by another 6.5 million.
Such is the sad statistics.
It is seen that “independence” is not quite “friendly” with prosperity.
