Syria: authorities of Afrin asked the government to protect borders from Turkish troops

Damascus, January 26th. The authorities of the Afrin district in northern Syria appealed to the government for protection from attempts to establish a “Turkish occupation”.
The government of the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR) was approached by the authorities of the Kurdish self-proclaimed Democratic Federation of Northern Syria.
“While we confirm that we will continue to defend the Afrin area from external attacks and we will repulse attempts to establish a Turkish occupation in Afrin, we urge the Syrian state to fulfill its sovereign responsibilities with respect to Afrin and protect its borders with Turkey from attacks by the Turkish invader,” – the report said.
The publication notes that the attempt to establish a “Turkish occupation” in the statement refers to the operation carried out by the Turkish armed forces in the Afrin area against Kurdish armed formations. At the same time, the district authorities who asked for help from the central government are in fact not under the control of the country’s leadership.
Recall, the military operation of the armed forces of Turkey “Olive Branch” in the Afrin area in the Syrian province of Aleppo began on January 20 against the backdrop of provocative actions by the US, which announced the possible creation of “border defense forces” by the Kurdish forces.
